This morning I came across (on accident) a neat little shortcut for accessing Mac OS X’s built in dictionary.
Sometimes I like to hide my dock while using Safari. The shortcut for doing this is command + option + d. At the time I went to do this I had a word highlighted in Safari. Instead of hitting the shortcut for hiding the dock I hit command + control + d. This brought up a little dictionary box like the one in the picture you see below…
The little box gave me access to a mini version of the dictionary application as well as provided me with the ability to look for similar words in the thesaurus.

To check out some more keyboard shortcuts I suggest going to the Apple Support page for keyboard shortcuts. All of the shortcuts are shown in plain text instead of the typical modifier key symbols. Sometimes I forget what the different symbols mean. The image below is a screenshot from the top of the Apple support page.

@EnderVR just pointed out to me that, “You don’t even have to highlight the word, just hover over it.” Awesome!
